Just a little bit about Miss Smith...
My name is Chelsea Smith and I am a Middle School Mathematics teacher at Renaissance Academy. I graduated from Grand Valley State University in December of 2016. I majored in Mathematics and have a minor in Elementary Education Certification. I am currently employed as a Middle School Mathematics teacher at Renaissance Academy in Utah, where I aspire to guide and teach students the importance of learning and growing as an individual and a community each and every day.
I am from the very small town of Shelby located on the Western side of Michigan. I love my hometown and could not have been born and raised in a better place. I have been fortunate enough to grow up with both my immediate and close extended family members living within the our small county of Oceana, if not the next county over. One of my favorite things about my hometown is it's proximity to the beautiful Silver Lake Sand Dunes. There I spend part of my summers (mostly) working, camping with my family, and hanging out with friends.
After devoting about a week of my summer at my church's Vacation Bible School the summer before my second year at Grand Valley State University, I discovered that being an educator and mentor for children is part of God's plan for me. Aside from VBS, I have had many other wonderful opportunities to gain experience and make memories with some pretty amazing children and students. I mentored and tutored in high school and during my sophomore and junior years of college, and went on to be a substitute teacher for my three remaining years of college in Michigan.
"There is gold and a multitude of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel." - Proverbs 20:15
Past and current experiences as a student, mentor and teacher have taught me that learning is not simply about gaining information and knowledge. Learning should be a fun and interesting experience for students and teachers alike. It is my goal to be a teacher who leads her students down the path to learning through the incorporation of fun, creative, and memorable experiences.
