✳✳Just a reminder, masks are required unless customers are seated to eat.
2. RA COVID-19 Update
To keep all stakeholders informed, I have included our current RA COVID statistics below. Thank you for all you are doing to help your children stay safe and in school, coordinate with teachers to keep up on missed work while they are in quarantine, and communicate to let us know when they have been exposed to COVID outside of school. Our goal at Renaissance is to stay open as long as possible and to keep educating your children both on-campus and online.
✳✳Note - We have approximately 820 students and staff at Renaissance.
3. School Attendance - Please prioritize your child’s education and do not check them in late or out early unless absolutely necessary
We have noticed a significant increase in the number of students being regularly checked in/out early/late. Please do not cut-short your students on-campus learning and experience unless you absolutely cannot avoid it. Our students love to be at school, and they have only 3.5 hours on-campus with their teacher this year. They need to be here! (Students also often complain and get sad when they miss fun classroom activities because you check them in late or out early). Please use the other hours of the day (before/after school) and Friday for appointments.
4. Parent/Teacher Conferences (SEPs) - Starting next week, February 5th-12th
Mid-year parent/teacher conferences (SEPS) start next week and will run from Friday, February 5th-12th. SEPs are so important for your student and their attainment of academic skills. Please remember to plan ahead to ensure you are available to meet with your students' teachers and review their academic progress, goals and to discuss any areas of concern.
5. 2021-2022 Returning Student Enrollment - NOW OPEN!
Returning student re-enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year is now open online at http://enrollment.renacademy.org/login?/enroll. All students who plan to continue at RA next year will need to register as a ‘returning student’ to maintain their position at the school. Please be aware you will need to create a new user profile in the lottery system to register your children as ‘returning’ next year (our system starts fresh every year). Please re-enroll your students as soon as possible. We ask that all parents please respond to indicate your plans for your student/s for 2021-2022.
For an overview of how our enrollment/lottery process works, you can check out our website: https://renacademy.org/enrollment. Feel free to reach out to our enrollment specialist, Ashley Doyle ([email protected]) with any questions.
6. 2021-2022 New Student Lottery - NOW OPEN
New student enrollment/the lottery system for the 2021-2022 school year is now open on our school website. Please remind any friends who may be considering Renaissance Academy to enter their students in the lottery registration system at this time. The lottery is set to be run in March.

7. 9th grade at RA in 2021-2022
Thank you to all of our 8th grade families who completed the recent survey I sent out before break to provide MS feedback and indication of preference to attend Renaissance MS for 9th grade. Based on your responses and the number of students who indicated that they would commit to attend RA next year, we are planning to offer 9th-grade. Current 8th-graders will have the opportunity to register as a ‘returning 9th-grader’ in our upcoming returning student enrollment process for 2021-22.
8. I-ready - Reading and Math - At-home practice 10-15 minutes everyday!
If you are not already doing this, I encourage you to have your children work on both i-ready reading and math at home for 10-15 minutes each subject every day. Unfortunately, this school year due to restricted time on-campus our teachers are trying to maximize all of the minutes they have with your children to teach and are not using on-campus time for things that can be done at home independently. I-ready is one of these important learning tools that we have to help your student learn and grow academically, and address their individual needs/learning gaps in both reading and math.
I-ready is a fun, interactive and adaptive learning tool where students are assigned lessons based on their level of skill mastery and understanding in their current grade level. It allows for students to progress beyond current grade level standards if they demonstrate mastery, and provides remedial lessons in concepts/topics where they struggle. Your child’s beginning of year diagnostic test results were presented to you at SEPS earlier this year. We will be taking the middle-of-year diagnostic test to review student progress within the next few weeks. Click on the link below for more information and FAQ. If you do not know your students log-in information, please contact your child’s teacher directly.
Please help your child progress academically (and their teacher) by setting aside 30-minutes daily for i-ready at home (15-mins Math and 15-mins Reading).

Thank you!

If your students are currently attending our on-campus hybrid schedule but you would like to move them to a full-time online class for Semester 2 please email me directly at [email protected] We will be offering this option, but ask that you commit to attending online classes for the duration of Semester 2 (both Terms 3 and 4). It is extremely challenging for our teachers to have students transition between classes and teachers mid-semester. Students who move to full-time online will be assigned a new online teacher and daily schedule.
✳ Full-time online learning is only available for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Unfortunately, we do not have the staffing capacity this year to offer a full-time online option for students in 7th and 8th grade.
✳✳ Hybrid students required to quarantine will not be moved temporarily to full-time online classes (except 6th); please coordinate with your on-campus teachers to make up any missed on-campus work and continue to attend all online classes.
5. Full-time Online Students Only - Semester 2 Survey (sent via email)
Full-time online families, I sent out a survey to you directly today for any families hoping to move their students to our hybrid on-campus schedule next week. Please take a few moments to complete the survey, it will be very helpful as we plan for and move into Semester 2. I appreciate your feedback!

Renaissance Families,
I hope you had a fabulous (although freezing) weekend! Welcome back for the first day of Term 2. Can you even believe it?! Please take a few moments stay 'in the know' and click on the link below to keep yourself informed on everything happening here at RA. Feel free to reach out with any questions or contact your students teacher directly.
IMPORTANT: Please send your children to school with a coat for recess everyday from now on. The wind here on the playground is FREEZING on a daily basis (even if it's not too bad at your house). We would also hate for them to be without a coat if we had to be evacuated from the building for any unplanned reason - this happened last year and students/staff were outside in winter temperatures for approximately 30 minutes. Please don't let it be your child who is outside in the snow without a coat. (During winter months, students are required to take their coat to any classes not held in their normal classroom - i.e., World Language or Specials.)
For information about the following list of topics, please use this link.
✳ Battle of the Books (10/26/20; last day to sign up online)
✳ Safe Boundaries Presentations (10/28 & 11/4)

Renaissance Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful week! Please check out the important information and reminders below. Feel free to reach out to your students teacher or directly with questions.
1. Virtual SEPS (Parent/Teacher Conferences) are next week - October 5th-9th!
If you have not already seen one, all teachers will be sending out parent/teacher conference sign-up sheets this week. Don’t forget to sign up to meet with your students teacher next week to discuss their progress, goals, achievement and any concerns you might have so far this year.
Important SEP Details for Parents
2. How to check your students grades and missing work on Aspire
You can easily check your students academic progress and grades online through our student information system Aspire. We encourage you to be involved in your students' education and to learn and to check aspire regularly/at least weekly. Please contact your students teacher if you are struggling to access your students grades through Aspire.
To create a login for your student:
a) Click on the link - https://renaissance.usoe-dcs. org/Login.aspx
b) Click on ‘Request a Username’
c) Enter your student ID number (same as their lunch/typing club number and can be obtained from their classroom teacher), date of birth and then create an account
d) Check your students grades and missing work regularly
3. FEC Silent Auction - Starts Friday, October 2nd - Friday, October 9th @ 9 pm
Our FEC Silent Auction starts very soon - check out this online flyer for all the details;
https://renacademy.org/dynamic/content/1146/888/silent_auction_flyer.pdf
4. Picture Day - October 6th & 7th!
Picture Day is now confirmed!
Class pictures will be done as usual - meaning you have the option to purchase a "class composite" which is each student's individual pictures placed together on one card (not a group photo).
5. Student Absences - https://renacademy.org/excuse-absence
If your student is absent from school, please go online to our school website as soon as possible to excuse the absence and let us know why they are not at school. School attendance is required by law and we are required to keep track of who is and is not regularly attending school. It only takes a moment - Please see the following link if and when you need to excuse your student’s absence from school at https://renacademy.org/
6. Lost & Found - Don’t forget to name your students belongings!
Don’t forget to mark your students sweaters, jackets, lunch boxes, and other personal belongings with their full name (first & last - we have many students with the same first name!). This makes it easier to find the owners and prevents you having to re-purchase lost items. Lost and found items are regularly placed in the gym and will be kept for one week before they are donated. Pictures are also posted weekly to our Renaissance Facebook page thanks to our parent volunteers.
7. Checking Students In & Out of School
All students who arrive at school late or leave early must be checked in and/or out of the office. Please remember to bring your driver’s license with you when coming to check out your student so we do not have to ask you to go back out to your car. It is not possible to call ahead and check your student out over the phone as we must scan your license to check out your student. Please be patient and understanding, our check in/out procedure is for the safety of our students.
8. Pick-up & Parking - Please do not park in our neighboring parking lots or block entry ways during carpool
Please do not park your car in the parking lots of local businesses surrounding our school. Business owners have repeatedly asked us as a school community (i.e., you as parents) not to park in their parking lots. We as an administration, also request that you respect our neighbors and do not park in the parking lots other than our own school lot. Please be advised, if you continue to park in any of the surrounding parking lots not belonging to Renaissance, you risk receiving a pricey parking ticket if reported to police by the local business owner.
9. Teacher Cart - Snack/drink donations can be made in the front office
Thank you to all families who have donated to our teacher snack cart! We appreciate your generosity! Our teachers love and miss the FEC travelling snack cart that visits their classrooms once a week for a surprise drink or treat/snack. Unfortunately, due to COVID we are unable to have most FEC fundraisers this semester and we are not having parent volunteers on-campus. If you would like to support your teachers and provide a treat/snack to be put on the cart, donations can be made in the front office.
Thank you all for your support & help to keep those teacher sugar and caffeine levels stoked!

- 4th-8th grade will be photographed on Wednesday, October 7th

Renaissance Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful week! Please check out the important information and reminders below. Feel free to reach out to your students teacher or directly with questions.
1. On-Campus Fire Drill - Tomorrow, September 17th
Our teachers have been preparing all on-campus students this week for our first fire drill of the school year. We will be conducting both an AM and PM on-campus fire drill tomorrow. If you have a kindergarten student or a student with sensory needs, the first drill (siren/evacuation) of the year is a new and often loud/daunting experience. Please spend a few moments talking with your children this evening so that they are more prepared for the experience tomorrow. For your information, all students are expected to be silent during the evacuation process and while all students/staff/visitors are accounted for. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out and express these to your student's classroom teacher.
2. Student Pictures - Tuesday, September 22nd
Don’t forget - Student picture day is next Tuesday, September 22nd!
a) On-campus students - All classes will be called to the gym for individual student pictures.
b) Full-time online students - Pictures are optional. If you would like to come to the school so that your students can have their picture taken, please ensure your student attends their regular online classes, and then come to the school during the opposite schedule. (AM online students - pictures available from 12:00-4:00, PM online students - pictures available from 8:00-12:00)
3. Mask Hygiene - Students need a fresh/clean mask every day
Don't forget to send your student to school with a clean/fresh mask everyday! Students are required to wear their masks at all times in the school building. This means they are often chewed on, sneezed into, breathed on all day... and nasty by the time they go home at 11:30 or 4:00 pm. Thank you!
4. School Lunch Program Update
Starting next week, we will be offering free sack lunches to all RA students (similar to Alpine School District). Our Food Services Director, Stella Aires will be sending a communication out to all families tomorrow. Please ensure you read this communication if you plan to have your students participate in our school lunch program this school year. As much as possible, sack lunches should be ordered in advance using the survey sent out regularly by Mrs. Aires to help our lunch staff plan and prepare lunch based on student need. For more information (once you have read the communication that will be sent out tomorrow), contact Mrs. Aires at [email protected]
5. K-6 Full-time online students only - Acadience Reading Assessment (formerly DIBELS)
If you have not already done so, and your student is registered as 'full-time online' (i.e., they do not attend any on-campus classes) please sign up for an on-campus reading assessment using the following link asap. This assessment is required by the state for all students in K-3, and we require it for all students in K-6 to help us get an accurate picture of reading achievement, student growth and areas for intervention/support.
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904094caca92fa1fa7-acadience
The reading assessment will take 10 minutes or less and will be conducted in our 5th-grade portable away from the general on-campus school population to allow increased social distancing. There will only be one tester and your student in the room. Parents are welcome to come in and observe. We will be socially distanced and sanitizing between each student. There are times in the morning and afternoon, so you can sign up between things that are happening online - students are still expected to attend their regular online classes.
Feel free to reach out to Tracy Scott (Reading Specialist) at [email protected] with any questions.
6. Student Vision Screening - Suspended for 2020-2021 School Year
Parents, please be aware that we are suspending vision screening at Renaissance this school year due to COVID-19 considerations. If you have concerns about your child's vision, please contact their doctor/pediatrician regarding vision screening.

Renaissance Families,
Thank you for a fabulous first two weeks of school!! I hope you are all getting back into the school groove, and that our new school schedule is becoming easier and more routine by the day! A big shout out to all of our on-campus students - you look fantastic in your fresh dress code clothes and cute/fun/creative masks!! I have been so impressed (and I know I am not the only one) with how well our RA students are keeping their masks on and doing their very best to show their 'listen to learn' behavior and attitudes. We love seeing all of your children and their smiling eyes back at school!!!
Please check out the important reminders below. Don't forget - No school on Monday, September 7th for Labor Day!
1. School Drop-Off & Pick-Up - Please drop/pick-up your children outside the main entryway/at the curb
Now that all students know how to get to their classes, we ask that you drop-off your students and pick-up them up outside of our main school entry doors. To help us maintain and increase student and staff health and safety, we ask that you no longer walk your students to their classrooms. Our security doors are now operating and all visitors/adults will be required to check-in/request their student for check-out through the front office.
a) Early check-out - If you need to check your student out of school early you will need to bring your ID to the front office. We will scan your ID, and your student will be called down.
b) Did your student forget their homework/water bottle or recess snack? - Leave it at the front office and we will call your child down to collect their belongings.
c) Sad student struggling to come to school? - Let us know! We have a fabulous school counselor and other support staff who come and help you talk with your child and encourage them, help them feel comfortable at school, and can walk them into class if they are struggling to get inside the building.
d) Is your student feeling unwell? - Students are encouraged to tell their teacher if they are unwell, and then to come to the office to call home if they are sick and unable to remain in class.
*Please note - Moving forward, we will be reminding/asking parents to refrain from entering the school building moving forward.*

3. Online Class Reminders & Expectations
Please ensure your student adheres to the following guidelines and expectations for all RA online classes;
a) School appropriate clothing is required - Please ensure your children are dressed and ready to learn in all online classes.
b) Workspace - All students require a quiet and appropriate learning space for online class. They need a chair, table/desk, and appropriate location at home to listen and learn. They need a learning space where they have a flat surface to write/draw etc. Beds, floors, couches and other places are not best suited for online learning.
c) Materials - All online students need the correct equipment and materials (device with web camera, headphones, and required textbooks)
d) Full-time online students - Your children need their MyMath and Reach for Reading textbooks to complete their online classes. If you have not already done so, please collect their school equipment from Mr. Wright in the library ASAP. You child cannot do their work if they don't have their books!
