Miss Smith's Philosophy of Education
Every Student is Unique
Each and every human being is different from all others, and my students will know that such uniqueness is a great thing. Students within my classroom community will learn to care about each other and respect their classmates for who they are, where they come from, what they look like, and why they think as they do. My students will be encouraged to use questioning to become more familiar with the interests and lives of their peers and expand their knowledge of the many different types of people and personalities they will be exposed to throughout their lives. I will always strive to build a classroom that supports all personalities and is centered around the idea of meeting each individual’s needs while simultaneously building a strong community.
Be a Leader, Not a Boss
I desire to see individuals that long to learn. I want my students to be enthusiastic about learning, rather than viewing school as a place where they must complete tasks because they are told to do so. I will guide students in activities by modeling and gradually releasing when necessary to support their understanding and ability to apply new ideas as they explore. Manipulative tools will be available for students, allowing them to demonstrate their thinking and help to build their individual learning experiences. I will assist students by pointing them in the right direction when they are in need of support but will keep a loose hold to allow the individuals the ability to think, speak, explore and grow freely as they learn new and important things each and every day.
Creativity is Key
Learning should always be creative and fun. I will encourage my students to learn in a variety of engaging ways. Every individual is unique and in need of particular environments and teaching styles in order for them to achieve personal goals and experience exploratory learning in ways that may or may not be different from the ways of their peers. In order to support all students I will teach creatively and to the needs of each child so they can be and feel accomplished and successful. I long to present curriculum that involves the interests of the children and makes learning relevant to their personal lives. I will incorporate themes, projects, group work, individual work, and hands-on learning to better help children to become active learners and members of both the classroom and neighborhood communities.
Children Are Our Future
My students will know how significant they are to the future of the community and world in which they live. I aim to help students discover who they are so they can develop the confidence needed in order to share and support their ideas, beliefs and opinions with their peers and teachers alike. Doing so will better the individual by preparing them for future schooling and work-related experiences in which they will be exposed to environments that call upon their knowledge for personal ideas and support. I will teach children about diversity and help them to understand why it enables each individual to bring something special to their classroom community as well as the community they are a part of outside of school. Students will learn the importance of respecting and accepting all other students and opinions to better prepare them for their future goals, careers and lives.
