8th Honors Math (SM1) Weekly Update
Term 4 (Mar. 22nd - May 27th)
Week of 4.19.21 - 4.22.21 (T4; Wk4) |
Thanks for your patience as updates are being made.
Week of 3.22.21 - 3.25.21 (T4; Wk1)
Dear RA 8th Honors Math Parents,
Only 8 more weeks to go! 😁😁 We've got this! Thanks, as always, for all of your time and support you spend with your students as they work and learn on assignments and tasks from home. 🙂
Here's what we did this week! 👍🏼
Just So You Know … what we covered this week
What to Expect … in the coming week
Additional Practice … is what’s for homework
✳ i-Ready Weekly Homework: Your student will be expected to work on i-Ready lessons at home (due to limited chromebook availability at school), completing 45 minutes worth of math lessons per week. This should be equivalent to at least 2 or 3 lessons worth (depending on the pace your student works at).
Knowledge Checks … better known as test dates
Now that the class has wrapped up all lessons in Unit 8 (Quadrilaterals & Distance with Circles), they will ask any final questions about their Unit 8 Review before engaging in their Unit 8 Assessment on Monday, March 29th.
Just Because … we sometimes need reminders 😉
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns.
Sincerely,
Miss Chelsea Smith

Here's what we did this week! 👍🏼
Just So You Know … what we covered this week
- Monday: The class was given additional time to complete their Lesson 8-3 (Distance on Circles) assignment, focusing on circumference and area of circles, and how to determine if a specific point is on the circumference of a circle, before reviewing the answers.
- Tuesday-Wednesday: Students progressed forward to their Unit 8 Study Guide, with the option to work with a partner or group.
- Thursday: Wrapping up the review for Unit 8, students checked their answers to the Study Guide and got an opportunity to ask and get questions answers.
What to Expect … in the coming week
- Unit 8 Assessment (Quadrilaterals & Distance with Circles): This assessment will focus on the following concepts/skills:
- Classifying Quadrilaterals (by side length, slope, angles)
- Distance on Circles (using a radius, circumference, area, etc.)
- Unit 9 (Transformations)
- Lesson 9-1 (Translations): Students will use their prior knowledge and continue practicing translations, specifying how a pre-image (starting shape) "slides" directionally to get to an image (ending shape).
- Lesson 9-2 (Reflections): The class will use what they know about reflections ("flips") to take them a step further, describing how a pre-image (starting shape) lands on an image (ending shape) by "flipping" over a specified line.
- (if time) Lesson 9-3 (Rotations): We will dive deeper into what we already know about rotations ("turns") by understanding specifically how a pre-image (starting shape) has ended up on an image (ending shape) by turning either clockwise or counterclockwise, and by a specific amount of degrees (45, 90, 60, 180, etc.).
Additional Practice … is what’s for homework
- Monday: i-Ready lesson(s) should be completed as homework (if not yet completed for the week). Your student can see 'i-Ready Weekly Expectations' within Google Classroom.
- Tuesday-Wednesday: Unit 8 Review (Study Guide handout)
- Thursday: Unit 8 Review (Study Guide handout; possible homework, if not completed in full on Wednesday)
